Job Description

Our client, a manufacturer of turbojet engines, is seeking a Performance Engineer. This key position will own gas turbine engine performance, serving as the subject matter expert for all jet engine models. You will own and maintain performance analysis tools and models, working closely with the Engineering team and other Aerospace divisions. Your responsibilities will also include supporting Business Development with performance data for customer inquiries, new applications, and New Product Introduction (NPI) efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

• Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for turbojet engine performance, maintaining ownership of in-house thermodynamic cycle deck and analysis tools.
• Develop and enhance tools and methodologies for evaluating engine performance across a range of operating conditions.
• Conduct performance assessments for new customer applications and evaluate installation impacts on engine operation.
• Support production test cell operations by analyzing performance metrics, troubleshooting issues, and tracking key indicators such as first-pass yield.
• Contribute to propulsion system test plans for investigations, component validation, process improvements, and optimization efforts.
• Analyze performance and operational data to generate reports with clear, actionable insights to support design and development initiatives.
• Create visualization tools to support performance analysis and data interpretation.
• Collaborate with Engineering Leadership on shaping the company’s Technology Roadmap, focusing on performance analytics and engine health monitoring to maintain leadership in gas turbine innovation.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related engineering field; advanced degree preferred but not required.
• 7+ years of experience in the gas turbine industry, including 5+ years in performance modeling using tools such as NPSS or GasTurb.
• Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, C/C++, and other modeling and programming tools.
• Familiarity with ASME GD&T standards and drafting best practices.
• Strong grasp of gas turbine technology and core engineering disciplines such as thermodynamics and fluid dynamics.
• Solid understanding of turbomachinery design principles, operations, and failure modes; ability to correlate analytical models with empirical test data.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office tools including Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Word, and Teams.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, analytical thinking, and ability to manage multiple tasks.
• Collaborative, high-energy team player with a passion for solving complex, high-impact problems.
• U.S. Citizenship required due to access restrictions.
• Willingness to travel up to 15%.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with defense industry standards and aerospace propulsion systems (e.g., MIL-STD).
• Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) practices.
• Understanding of advanced digital technologies such as Digital Twin, AI, IoT, and predictive analytics.
