JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE

Delta Utilities is seeking a Security Operations Engineer as an engaging, technical leader responsible for managing and advancing the organization’s threat and vulnerability management program. This role will lead internal threat detection and response initiatives, coordinate external penetration testing, and serve as the primary point of contact for the organization’s outsourced Managed Detection and Response (MDR) provider. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in security operations, threat hunting, and vulnerability management, with the ability to work collaboratively across IT and business teams.

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Lead the threat and vulnerability management program, including vulnerability scanning, risk assessment, and remediation coordination.

• Plan, manage, and coordinate external penetration testing engagements and ensure findings are addressed.

• Design and execute internal purple team exercises and threat hunting activities to proactively identify and mitigate risks.

• Serve as the primary liaison with the organization’s MDR vendor, ensuring effective detection, triage, and response to security incidents.

• Analyze security alerts and incidents, perform root cause analysis, and recommend improvements to detection and response capabilities.

• Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), playbooks, and documentation for security operations.

• Collaborate with IT infrastructure, application, and cloud teams to ensure secure configurations and timely remediation of vulnerabilities.

• Monitor threat intelligence sources and apply relevant insights to improve the organization’s security posture.

• Support compliance and audit activities related to security operations and vulnerability management. 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Minimum education required of the position

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Security, Information Technology, or a related field. In lieu of a degree, having 4+ years of experience in Cybersecurity is required.

Minimum experience required of the position

• Minimum of 6+ years of experience in cybersecurity, with at least 2 years in a security operations or threat detection role.
• Requiring experience working with MDR  OR  has worked with a SOC-as-a-Service provider. 

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities preferred of the position

• Experience managing vulnerability management tools and processes (e.g., Tenable, Qualys, Rapid7, Microsoft Defender).

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across technical and non-technical teams.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on delivering practical and innovative solutions.

•  Strong understanding of threat detection, incident response, and vulnerability management.

• Hands-on experience with SIEM platforms, EDR tools, and threat intelligence platforms.

• Familiarity with MITRE ATT&CK framework and purple teaming methodologies.

• Knowledge of cloud security principles, especially in Microsoft 365, Azure, and OCI environments.

• Ability to analyze and interpret security data, logs, and alerts to identify threats and vulnerabilities.

• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

• Experience in regulated industries such as energy, utilities, or critical infrastructure.

• Familiarity with OT/ICS environments is a plus.

• Experience with scripting or automation (e.g., Python, PowerShell) for security operations tasks.

Any certificates, licenses, etc. preferred for the position

• Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)

• Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP)

• Certified Information Security Manager (CISM)

• AWS/Azure/OCI Security Certifications

• TOGAF or other enterprise architecture certifications
