Job Description

SUMMARY OF POSITION: The Shipping Manager is responsible for overseeing IPD’s domestic and international shipping operations. This role will be responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely shipment of diesel engine parts, optimizing freight costs, and maintaining compliance with all shipping regulations. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of logistics and carrier management, and the ability to streamline warehouse shipping processes. This position requires independent judgment to handle complex tasks and implement effective strategies, driving operational efficiency and customer satisfaction. This position is responsible for achieving objectives while exhibiting Storm Industries' Core Values.

  1. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Regular Functions include:

  • Manages and oversees all shipping operations, including domestic and international shipments.

  • Ensures compliance with customs regulations, export/import requirements, and hazardous material handling standards.

  • Identifies deficiencies, develops layout, processes, and procedures, ensuring effective movement and packaging of orders. This includes consideration for shipping warehouse space utilization, TAKT/Cycle Times, and orders flow within the shipping area.

  • Monitors shipping performance, ensuring on-time deliveries, and resolving delays or issues.

  • Optimizes shipping methods to reduce costs while maintaining efficiency and customer satisfaction.

  • Coordinates with warehouse teams to ensure accurate order fulfillment, packaging, and labeling.

  • Implements and maintains shipping procedures to improve workflow and reduce errors.

  • Tracks and manages shipping documentation, including invoices, customs forms, and bills of lading.

  • Utilizes shipping software and ERP systems to monitor inventory and shipment tracking.
  • Leads and trains a team of shipping staff, ensuring adherence to company policies and safety standards.

  • Works closely with sales, customer service, and inventory teams to align shipping operations with business needs.

  • Promotes adherence to safety regulations and ISO requirements.

  • Regular attendance at the worksite is essential to perform this role effectively.

  • Other duties as required.

Periodic Functions include:

  • Manages miscellaneous projects as required to support organizational goals and priorities.

Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Provides oversight to employees in the shipping area, ensuring smooth operations and adherence to organizational standards.
  • Performs managerial duties in compliance with company policies and applicable laws.
  • Manages employee attendance, performance metrics, and manufacturing order accuracy and efficiencies.
  • Outlines clear performance objectives and ensure their thorough and timely completion while recommending and supporting employee development programs.
  • Partners with Human Resources on employee relations matters, including coaching, counseling, and implementing corrective actions when necessary.

  1. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or minimum 5 years’ relevant experience.

Professional/Technical Training and Skills include:

  • Experience handling domestic and international freight, including knowledge of customs regulations and shipping documentation.
  • Strong understanding of freight carriers, LTL, FTL, ocean freight, and air freight logistics.
  • Experience with LEAN, 6 SIGMA, or other process improvement techniques to identify deficiencies, develop efficient layouts, processes, and procedures to ensure effective movement and packaging of orders and to improve TAKT/Cycle Times.
  • Ability to negotiate contracts with carriers and freight forwarders.
  • Proficiency in shipping software, ERP systems, and inventory management tools.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent leadership abilities with experience managing warehouse/shipping teams.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced warehouse environment and handle multiple priorities.
  • Knowledge of diesel engine parts or automotive/mechanical parts distribution is a plus.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required.
  • Leadership training an asset.
